Jane Walker – Walk Gently on the Earth

“I like the fact that if we are not greedy, we have an abundant universe” (Jane Walker)

GoSet Music  is proud to announce the release to Australian radio of Sydney singer/songwriter Jane Walker’s new single, Walk Gently on the Earth from her album Walk Gently.

The song has inspired Frankie Bouchier, a 13-year-old environmental campaigner to edit a Youtube video featuring images of plastic pollution from around the world in contrast with images of pristine Australian wilderness. Images and footage have been donated from Ocean Recovery Alliance, Tangaroa Blue Foundation, Richard Green Photography and include the footsteps of His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Walk Gently on the Earth has also inspired leading eco-cosmetics company, Vanessa Megan to create with Jane the new Walk Gently on the Earth Body Spray (recently profiled in the Sunday Telegraph, 21/10/12). Sales of both the song and natural fragrance contribute a percentage of profits back to the environment via the international charity Ocean Recovery Alliance, which is dedicated to cleaning up the world’s oceans and waterways.

“Jane Walker’s song, Walk Gently on the Earth, is a call to care for the environment and ourselves.’ Says Vanessa Gray, founder of the Vanessa Megan range.

Produced by Barb Griffin (Sony), co-produced by Jane and mixed by David Hemming, the song is energized with a potent mix of textures and influences, featuring jazz musician Stu Hunter on Wurlitzer, Middle Eastern percussion by Giosofatto “Jess” Ciampa, bass by James Haselwood and the drumming virtuosity of Sydney’s finest groovemeister, Hamish Stuart. The recording also features Sanskrit chanting from the Upanishads, with the message that we are all connected, and the world has enough for everyone if we just take our share.

The song is available on the album Walk Gently at www.janewalker.com.au/store and on iTunes. The Walk Gently On the Earth Body Spray is available from Jane’s website, Vanessa Megan, Natural Progressions store, Bondi Beach and the aboutlife stores.

Robyn Loau Covers Kate Bush Classic

“Kate Bush is a genius and I’ve adored this song for so long. It is exhilarating, beautiful and twisted.  While this is a complicated tale of eternal love, the thought of haunting a bastard ex lover from beyond the grave appeals to me… and why the hell not?!! I’m sure that’s what I’ll be doing!” Robyn Loau

Lifting the single from her new album Only Human, Robyn has teamed up with dance music pioneers S:amplify aka Josh Abrahams and Davide Carbone to create a 21st century soundscape behind ethereal vocals.  The alternative version of the song on the single features a sparse, haunting soundtrack produced by acclaimed musician and composer Stu Hunter (who has worked with the likes of Portishead and Silverchair). An a capella version is also included to encourage potential remixers of the classic track to flex their talents.

The visuals for this project have been the result of Robyn’s collaboration with international fashion and celebrity photographer Peter Brew Bevan and Belgian graphic design house Bumbledum. Peter’s concept for the cover image featuring Robyn and her ghost portrays the two different versions of the song. While discussing the details of the photoshoot on his blog Peter Brew Bevan writes- ‘The process with Robyn was so rewarding. To be back working on such a special project for her was so much fun!’

Written by a teenage Kate Bush and originally released in 1978, Wuthering Heights reached number one in the UK, French and Australian charts. The song is based on the Emily Bronte novel published in 1847. The tortured love story of Heathcliffe and Catherine has captured a new generation of fans recently due to the success of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga (which references the book) and the new Andrea Arnold directed Wuthering Heights movie featuring Kaya Scodelario from UK TV series Skins.

Robyn’s new alternative pop album Only Human is available now on iTunes, GoSet Music and other online music stores, and selected retailers through MGM.   For more information contact Doug Nixon doug@gosetmusic.com

Jane Walker’s ‘Ancient Land’

Jane Walker’s song Ancient Land (featuring Predator from Street Warriors) is a celebration of Australian identity and an edgy soulful anthem calling for reconciliation. Jane and Goset Music are excited to release a video for the song, shot by the acclaimed music video producer and director Angus Giorgi (Dreamcatcher/Armada, Natalie Imbruglia ‘Torn’)

“The song Ancient Land gives a gentle but powerful message whose time has finally come.”

Aden Ridgeway, NSW Ambassador for Reconciliation

Filmed at the Vanguard and on the streets of Newtown, Sydney, it features Deadly award winning rapper Predator from the indigenous hip-hop group Street Warriors.  Predator is an inaugural ambassador for the Australian Electoral Commission’s Indigenous Electoral Participation Program that encourages indigenous Australians to vote and have their say.

The haunting melody and lyrics of the song draw upon Jane’s childhood in Sydney, growing up in a world filled with Aboriginal street and place names but few Aboriginal faces and the sense that much of Australia’s history had been swept under the carpet.

2012 promises to be a landmark year for Australian identity and unity with the proposed national referendum. For the first time, this will give positive recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Constitution.

Ancient Land, from Jane Walker’s debut album, Walk Gently, was produced by Steve James at Rocking Horse Studios, Byron Bay and features keys by James Cruickshank (The Cruel Sea) and guitar by Warwick Scott (Skunkhour).

Ancient Land and the album Walk Gently are available on iTunes, the Goset Music store and other online music stores, and selected retailers.

La’i releases Daylight Breaks EP

Posted on: No Comments
GoSet is proud to announce the CD release of a fresh voice on the international music scene –  La’i (pronounced La-ee).  Growing up on the beaches of Australia and Hawaii, La’i has developed a signature sound that, combined with her pure voice, has drawn comparisons to her Hawaiian neighbour Jack Johnson and the late singer Eva Cassidy.  The Sydney and Boston based teenager’s debut EP, Daylight Breaks, is a collection of original songs and interpretations representing her life up until now.  The record has been named after the very first song La’i wrote at age 14 after a sleepless night.

A lot of my spare time at school was spent in a boarding house, sitting on my bed with my guitar and a notepad. I think these songs are warm and comfortable and I hope people will relate to them.

The collection of songs also includes pieces originally recorded by A Fine Frenzy, Lucie Silvas and Sarah Humphreys. Capturing the honesty and magic within her songs and interpretations, the first half of the Daylight Breaks EP was recorded with her high school guitar teacher Rory O’Donoghue. The second half of the EP was recorded live at Trackdown Studios during Lai’s first visit to a professional recording studio. The EP has been mixed by Kathy Naunton who is best known for her work on Missy Higgins’ recordings.  La’i has been playing shows with Danielle Gaha and Danielle Spencer.

La’i has found early support at local radio with two of her songs Place to Hide and Anywhere But here charting on the AirIT Airplay Charts: Top Ten Most Ordered Tracks for Radio airplay for consecutive weeks.  The EP debuted on iTunes top 5 singer/songwriter charts alongside Lai’s favourite artists, Laura Marling and Angus & Julia Stone.
La’i is currently on a scholarship at Berklee, the prestigious Boston based Music College whose alumni include John Mayer.  The physical CD of Daylight Breaks can be purchased HERE at the GoSet Store.  Digital copies can be downloaded from iTunes.

Street Warriors

GoSet is proud to announce that the music video for Solid Rock by the Street Warriors featuring Shannon Noll has won Silver at the NSW/ACT State Awards for Cinematography held on Saturday 28 November at The Menzies Hotel in Sydney.  Shot by Matthew Chuang of Scope Red, on Red, the video was filmed on location in Gunnedah and pays homage to the Street Warriors’ ancestor, Red Chief Kangaroo.  The clip also features famed indigenous dancer Albert David.  Street Warriors have reworked the classic Aussie song combining hip hop verses and beats with rock guitars and a soaring vocal from multi-platinum vocalist, Australian Idol alumni Shannon Noll.

The rendition has earned them a Deadly Nomination for Single of the Year and has been hailed by acclaimed music writer Kathy McCabe as ‘An Anthem for our Times’.

After making a name for themselves off the back of high energy, in your face Aboriginal anthems, Solid Rock is the first song that Street Warriors have written with a wider audience in mind. For this hip hop/rock interpretation of the song, the Street Warriors wanted to maintain the idea of respect – both ways.

The original version of the song (written by Shane Howard of Goanna) won Best Single Of The Year in the 1982 ARIA Awards and was an anthem touching on the displacement of Aboriginal tribes during European settlement. Solid Rock became a worldwide hit and is considered to be the first rock song to extensively use the didgeridoo.

The Street Warriors version of the song was first unveiled at the opening ceremony of Australia’s biggest international indigenous festival, the Dreaming at Woodford building a buzz over the course of the festival as Street Warriors performed it on four consecutive nights to huge crowds.  The original creator of the song, Shane Howard, who also replays his famous guitar riff on this version, joined Street Warriors on stage to perform the song at the Opening Ceremony at the Dreaming.  They have also performed it as a closing number for the Deadly Awards.

Solid Rock is the lead track from the Street Warriors’ debut album, Unstoppable Force, which features collaborations with #1 New Zealand hip hop act Nesian Mystik, acclaimed producer Josh Abrahams and Siva Pacifica goddess Robyn Loau.

“Abie and Warwick Wright, who make up Street Warriors, are to be congratulated for their great album Unstoppable Force – the first produced with Breakthrough funding from the first round. It is a great achievement and a testament to their talent,” Mr Garrett said.
Street Warriors were among a number of artists selected in the first round of the program by the assessment panel comprising music industry professionals Christine Anu, Rhoda Roberts and Rob Collins.

“Music is such a great vehicle of expression and creativity for young Indigenous Australians and I can’t wait to see what new talent is discovered in 2010,” Mr Garrett said.
